| Update for Week of April 28, 2003
|
Dear Readers; Since the last Update, the War in Iraq is "winding down" and the Department of Homeland Security lowered the threat level to "Yellow", now is the time to be more aware for the potential of Constitutionally preserved rights of U. S. citizens to be whithered away by security laws like the already passed Patriot Act and the drafted legislation known as Patriot Act II. One of the effects of this right down at the local level is your library being required to turn over all patrons' reading records to the federal government. If you read nothing else in this Update, please read Number 5C and see how the local Olympia/Yelm Library system is handling this situation and ask your local library what they are doing to protect your privacy. Here is information from the American Library Association (ALA):
link here then click: "Our Association" in the top bar, then click "Offices" on the left column, then click "Washington Office", then click "Issues", then click "Civil Liberties, Intellectual Freedom & Privacy", then click "The US Patriot Act & Libraries."
1. Now the World Health Organization (WHO) has put out a warning that only essential
travel should be considered to Beijing and Shanxi Province, China & Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
There are so many divergent views on this virus. Whatever source you believe about the authenticity
of the reports, one thing IS fact: the hype about SARS is having a huge economic impact in certain sectors:
Here is the WHO warning: Click HereHere is a very informative question/answer site on SARS: Click HereAirline travel to Asia is off by 30% over last year and was most airlines' only profitable area prior to this outbreak, and now with Ontario on the list, look for a major
economic impact in Canada and the neighboring Buffalo, N. Y. area: Click HereAnd: Click Here.
2. Here is a report from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) updating adverse "events" following civilian
smallpox vaccinations in the USA. Would you take this vaccine? HUM: Click Here.
3. Have you heard the latest in the Iraq situation?
A. Richard Perle, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz and others (quoted here previously) have said the USA would be seen as liberators
in Iraq. Now, millions of Iraq's majority Shiite Muslims, gaining freedom to speak for the first time in over 30 years with Saddam's regime
no longer in power, are demonstrating in streets all over Iraq pushing for a fundamentalist Islamic nation. Their peoples state that President
Bush said they would have the freedom to choose their own government and they want no part of a USA style democracy: Click HereB. Israel is now pushing the USA for resumption of an oil pipeline from Iraq to its country, diverting the existing line through Syria.
The original oil pipeline to Israel went to the then State of Palestine until the formation of Israel in 1948, when it was diverted to Syria.
Ed. Note: Lest you doubt part of this campaign is about oil, should this occur, a line such as this will transform economic power in the region.
And one question to consider: How will this impact the US A's relationship and standing in the Arab world? Look for more on this in the days ahead: Click HereC. Sec. of State Colin Powell put France on notice that it will face consequences in its unyielding position to the U. S.-led war. Were the
U. S. to be in a position to need France's help in the future, this has the potential for harm to the Franco-American relationship and such help may not be so forthcoming: Click HereD. As reported here several months ago and now publicly revealed, this war has been about oil and what currency will be used (dollar vs.
Euro) to denominate the value of Iraqi oil sales. A very thoughtful story now out this week about keeping the Euro from gaining ground on
the dollar, as the currency of choice for oil sales, by Newsweek's Howard Fineman for MSNBC: Click Here.
4. Ronald Reagan, Jr. has spoken out for the first time about the Bush Administration saying they are an extension of Ronald Reagan's
legacy and his remarks indicate he is not pleased with such association and is speaking on his father's behalf. This is a very frank
interview. Mr. Reagan lives in Seattle: Click HereIf you are not a subscriber and wish to view the full interview, click: Click Here.
5. More on the Bush Administration's Patriot Act:
A. A local California community has joined the rising chorus of municipalities to pass a resolution urging local law enforcement officials
and others contacted by federal officials to refuse requests under the Patriot Act that they believe violate an individual's civil rights under
the Constitution. Then, Arcata, Ca., went a step further by passing an ordinance that outlaws voluntary compliance with the Patriot Act. This
from THE WASHINGTON POST, no less: Click HereB. And the VILLAGE VOICE in New York reports how Patriot Act II will subvert the Clean Air Act so radically that residents in towns
and cities around the country could be affected and whistle blowers will be committing a criminal offense by revealing what information
they have about a company's violations. Welcome to "1984": Click HereC. The Timberland Regional Library serving Yelm announced this week it will comply with the Patriot Act but will NOT supply the federal
government with required records of patrons' reading habits, by destroying those records. Are you protected like this by your local library?: Click Here.
6. DISCOVER Magazine is reporting a new way to produce oil in the U. S.--conversion of 600 tons of wastes produced each year from turkey processing, into oil: Click HereSpeaking of oil, the magazine THE ECOLOGIST was given to me with a fabulous story about our dependency on oil and 30 ways
to kick the oil habit & get off of that merry-go-round: Click Here.
7. Now, the Harvard Gazette has published the first study to compare the effects of inactivity on obesity and diabetes and concludes
that being a "couch potato" significantly raises the risk of both diseases: Click Here.
8. The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory has produced
a computer model showing the effects of a tsunami tidal wave caused by an under ocean earthquake and what this event would do
in Puget Sound. Seeing these models give one a clear picture why one would desire to choose land in Yelm 400 feet above sea level: Click HereAnd the graphics: Click Here.
9. Research has just been published by scientists in Nottingham, England where they have levitated gold coins. This is a story you must read: Click Here.
10. Nancy & Elena formerly hosted a radio program in Monterey, Ca. called "Where the Eagle Meets the Condor", which was labelled "dedicated to the search for knowledge where an ordinary life is not an option." Now they have a
website with "streaming audio" that has their interviews, including such guests as Greg Simmons of Ramtha's School of
Enlightenment and Dr. Miceal Ledwith speaking on religion, spirituality, quantum mechanics and more. Their fabulous site is: Click HereAnd the list of interviews: Click Here.
11. For those of you planning Spring and Summer travel, Southwest Airlines has put its $99 each way special (plus taxes) back in place if ticketed by May 1st for travel through September 8th. With the war over and people starting to get back flying again, fares
like this will not be around long. This is not an endorsement of Southwest, as many airlines have matched these fares or bettered them, including Northwest: Click HereAnd Northwest bettered them by offering outstanding fares systemwide for domestic, Trans-Atlantic & Trans-Pacific travel, for those of you coming to summer RSE Events. You must purchase from Northwest by May 2. Their details: Click Here.
12. The local dance troupe BLACKEN TAN will be performing a free show this Friday & Saturday at the Heart & Soul Dance Studio
for the Olympia Art Walk. Details can be found on their website at:
13. Now things are just so blatant, they are not even disguised, regarding programming the public. To wit, out this week is an
article on MSNBC suggesting that a way to relieve stress in these challenging times is through--ta- da, sex! How much lower can
a society go? What about learning to evolve, not devolve the mind? How about relieving stress through reading a good book--
and not some romance novel either?: Click Here.
14. While on the subject of programming, I will close this Update with a method to learn how to make a quick "buck".
This is one of the frankest looks I have seen at how we are all programmed to consume, under the forum for laughter via a cartoon.
Whereever truth is spoken, follow that path: Click Here.

Ah, the April showers of the Great Pacific Northwest, the mild temperatures, and the green countryside!
No wonder this area is the Emerald of the nation. Enjoy the bounty of the new life in Spring.

| Update for Week of April 14, 2003
|
Greetings! There will be no Update next week, so this is a "Double Issue". Look for the next one the following week. If you read nothing else in this Update, please consider reading #1, L.
1. As Operation Iraqi Freedom has been under way, the lead story in these Updates has been
SARS. Now, SARS is rivaling the war in Iraq for headlines. This past week has seen some major
developments:
A. President Bush issued an Executive Order on Friday, April 4, 2003 allowing the government
to issue an official forced quarantine, if it becomes necessary:
Click Hereclick "executive order" for the text of President Bush's Executive Order
B. Lest you think this is not serious, President Bush has ordered the U. S. Embassies to cut diplomatic
staff throughout China and send home all non-essential personnel:
Click HereC. There may be a new outbreak in Hong Kong:
Click HereD. Is the USA prepared:
Click HereF. More information from WHO:
Click HereG. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta has issued more updates. It has been flooded with calls::
Click HereAnd, the story about the flood of calls into the CDC:
Click HereH. Tommy Thompson, Health & Human Services Director in the USA, said on the ABC News Program "20/20"
on Friday, April 4, 2003 that the fatality rate for SARS is 4%, and if that continues globally, the deaths from this
will soon add up. Here is a partial transcript of that program:
Click HereI. Airlines to Asia began offering passengers masks fearing SARS, this past week:
Click HereJ. Flight attendants are calling on the Federal Air Surgeon of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for help in safety on the job,
by asking to wear surgical masks while on duty
Click HereK. Professor Peter Curson, historical epidemiologist at Sydney, Australia's Macquiarie University, said SARS was
in many ways a monster of man's own making, along with other new diseases like AIDS & Ebola. Read his remarks: Click HereL. And, if you wonder where these diseases may originate, read this. Please note: I place this here as an alternative view.
As I always state, trust your own knowingness. NEVER take my word for anything I place here. This may shock some of you:,
however, this provides an excellent examination of many views of this disease and others you will NOT hear in the mainstream press:
Click HereM. Masks used to protect people from SARS are now a fashion trend in Hong Kong. Humor amidst the turmoil:
Click HereN. If you want to see how an infectious outbreak could unfold, go rent the movie OUTBREAK:
2. Have you ever heard of the movie "Wag The Dog", where a war is created for the agendas of those in power, and
the so-called military-industrial complex? The noted San Francisco Chronicle newspaper reported a story this week in their
online addition that the Iraq war was originally planned by many in the current White House administration in 1997 and titled
Project for the New American Century (PNAC). "PNAC had alot of information on nailing Saddam and reshaping the Middle
East," according to The Chronicle. I had never heard of this and looked it up. All I can say is, check this out for yourself! A must
read to gain a further context for this war. Here is the Chronicle article:
Click HereThe Scotland SUNDAY HERALD called PNAC a blueprint for U. S. global domination. Although the intent may sound
pure, with administration advisers saying the USA should be strong and not sit back and let terrorists strike us first, this is an
eye-opening look into a strategy that clearly points to the U. S. as the aggressor. Here is the PNAC website:
Click HereAnd here is a story on PNAC that ABC's NIGHTLINE ran on March 5th, 2003. Of the 18 people who signed a 1998 letter to
then President Clinton advocating unilateral U. S. action against Iraq, 10 are now in the Bush Administration. Other signers, to
quote ABC , "include William Kristol of the WEEKLY STANDARD, and Richard Perle", according to their story. Ed. Note:
HUM, that name pops up again! Here is the transcript:
Click HereOh, and if you have not seen "Wag The Dog", rent it today:
3. Earth Day will be celebrated April 22, 2003 this year. Since this Update will not next appear until that day, I thought
to let you know now of the many activities around this event:
4. Here is a very interesting map of the actual shape and size of our continents if the map were created accurately.
This is a very interesting site:
5. Dr. Steven Greer was on George Noory's "Coast to Coast" radio program earlier this year and announced a Zero
Point Energy (ZPE) device found. He is President & CEO of Space Energy Access Systems, Inc. (SEAS):
Click HereAnd the complete transcript from the radio broadcast:
6. Better chemistry through nanorings with gold rings having a new cachet. This is a fascinating article:
7. An eleven year old Russian immigrant girl prepares to battle skeptics with both eyes closed, saying that she can see
through blindfolds:
8. You may be interested to know how to avoid genetically engineered foods via a list of those that do/do not have
genetically engineered ingredients:
USA: Click HereCanada: Click Here.
9. United Press International (UPI) is reporting this week that a new earthquake fault has been mapped running directly
under downtown Los Angeles that has the potential to unleash energy to cause upwards of $50 billion in damage. The
fault is named after Puente Hills in Northern Orange County where its east end begins:
Click HereAnd this report in our Seattle Times:
10. The London Times reported a couple of weeks ago that the oil industry suppressed plans for a 200 mpg car
back in the 1930's:
11. National Geographic reported recently that Israeli scientists have devised a computer that can perform 330 trillion
operations per second, more than 100,000 times the speed of the fastest PC. The secret is it runs on DNA:
12. Mentioned here last week is that there are no refugees coming across the Iraqi border into Jordan, as was expected. The Hashemite
Kingdom is a key U. S. ally in the region, yet is taking a huge amount of criticism from its people and the Arab world for its associations
with the U. S. in this aggression (USA view = liberation) with Iraq. The situation in this strategic nation bears watching, as reported on CBS NEWS program
"60 Minutes" which aired April 6th in the USA: Click Here.
13. Editor's note: This following story is a disgrace AND an embarrassment. Almost 1% of the USA population is behind bars,
according to statistics released on April 6, 2003 that the U. S. has over 2 million people incarcerated:
Click HereThe USA has more prisoners than China or Russia according to "Research Findings". Ed. Note: That's pathetic for a country with ideals such as the USA. "Three strikes, you're out" sentencing guidelines (three convictions of any type being jailed for 25+ years, even petty theft) are part of the cause: Click Here.
14. With Baghdad firmly in "coalition" control, investors are fleeing precious metals and heading back to paper.
The stock market is heading up, while oil prices have hit 4-month lows and gasoline is dropping in price, fast: Click HereAnd:
Click HereAnd a big role for oil firms in Iraq after the war, comes as no surprise:
Click HereWhile gold is holding steady at below $325 an ounce, yet ABC News is reporting the economy may be in for a "rude
awakening" after the war. They talk of recession. I have been mentioning something else--deflation:
15. A huge announcement this week that University of California-Riverside researchers have discovered the phenomenon of
electrostatic spin that challenges a century-old theory and will likely impact atomic physics, chemistry and nanotechnology and
has the potential to change many common things, from an aircraft's wing performance to the smallest of manufactured items:
16. Remember the disintegration of TWA 800 and the ensuing number of eyewitnesses both in the air and on the ground, that saw something strike the aircraft?
And the police officer-turned-investigative reporter, James Sanders, who was arrested and jailed on Clinton Administration Justice Department trumped up charges, all because
his investigation into the mysterious crash exposed flaws in the government's official probe? Now, Sanders is out of jail and
vindicated by none other than the Bush Justice Department and has written a book detailing his TWA 800 investigation titled
"First Strike: TWA 800 and the Attack on America":

| Update for Week of April 7, 2003
|
If you are new to the Update, this evolved after 9/11 when so many sent me requests for an opinion. Rather than answer my view, I send links to sites that provide ideas and knowledge with which the reader could contemplate and form their own conclusions. This continues to this day. NEVER take my word for anything here. Use you own mind to discern what you will from these links. I provide information on scientific & research, geopolitical, and economic issues of which I have a particular interest. As always, a link is provided and is active at the time of each Update, although may not be at a later time. If you have any comment, you can write to me at: srklein@ywave.com. Daylight savings time begins at 2:00a.m. in each USA time zone this Sunday morning April 6. Be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour before retiring on Saturday night, April 5th everywhere in the Continental U. S., except parts of Indiana and Arizona:
link here
1. Continuing with the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) story, airlines are now required to screen passengers
upon boarding USA bound flights in Asia and federal authorities have now added China & Singapore to the list of countries,
including Hong Kong & Vietnam, where non-essential travel should be postponed: Click HereAnd, an American Airlines flight arrived in San Jose, Ca.from Tokyo on April 1 and was temporarily quarantined: Click HereThe WHO site of the United Nations and their latest warnings: Click HereAnd, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta now has an alert, as this is now spreading across the U. S with 72 cases reported in 26 states: Click Here.
2. In follow-up to several stories from last week's Update:
A Richard Perle resigned as Chairman from Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's Defense Policy Board,
although he will retain his seat on that Board. This from The Seattle Times: Click HerePerle asked The New York Times to write a rebuttal in their paper to their story about his 'conflict of interest' advising
Global Crossing in that paper and they declined, unless, quoting Perle in the following Wall Street Journal article "When
I asked the Times to publish a letter in reply, I was told that they would not unless I dropped the word 'incorrect.' Thus
I learned that the Times censors letters to the editor." He's referring to his letter rebuttal saying the NYT story is incorrect.
However, the Wall St. Journal did print his story. You must be a WSJonline subscriber to view the article: Click HereB. Vice President Dick Cheney's former company Halliburton took itself out of the running for oil well job reconstruction
in Iraq amidst criticism from many corners of favoritism by the Bush Administration & Cheney's relationship to both: Click HereC. Regarding your phone number map location being found on Google's search bar, this may be of interest:
Google has made available an option that will allow anyone to REMOVE their telephone number from the database
that is linked to the mapping feature. If the number appears in the mapping database, an icon resembling a telephone
will appear next to the first or second entry on the results page. Clicking on this icon will take you to a page containing
a description of the service, and a link to request your number be removed from the database. So far unlisted numbers
and cell phone numbers, do not show up. Here is the information page: Click Here.
3. I received so many comments about the Preparedness list I sent out, as well. Why did I send that out?
The picture of thousands flocking Manhattan on foot via the Brooklyn Bridge on 9/11 is everlasting in my mind,
as none of those people had a backpack with these kind of supplies in their cars or offices to access, when the island was totally
sealed, except for exiting foot traffic to Brooklyn. Four other things to consider, as have been sent as suggestions:
A. A good waterproof sock.
B. Rubbing alcohol--disinfectant as well as good aid in starting a fire.
C. Fill you vehicle with gas every time you get to half a tank. This is what we all did during the 1973 & 1979 oil embargoes.
D. A good quality Leatherman's type all purpose tool, in case you have to abandon your vehicle, walk, & needing to cut wire: Click Here.
4. The Legislature of the State of Nevada has a bill on its floor to issue its own coinage, saying it agreed to allow the U. S. Treasury to do that based on Article 1, Section 8 of the U. S. Constitution. Nevada says it never agreed giving this
authority away to a private corporation, the Federal Reserve Bank. So, until such time that the U. S. Treasury again issues its
own notes, a new silver coin will be minted for use in Nevada. Ed. Note: Yes! Truth is coming forward on this unconstitutional
agreement of a Federal Reserve (private corporation) regulating the value of U. S. money that was enacted December 23, 1913.
Finally, one state has recognized this and has the will to attempt to give the power of the treasury back to the people. Let's hope this bill passes! Any more?
Here is the bill--a must read: Click HereFor those of you unaware, Article 1, Section 8 of the U. S. Constitution states "The Congress shall have power ...To coin money,
regulate the value thereof." Please don't take my word for this. Read this part of this fabulous document yourself: Click Here.
5. A television reporter in Detroit investigated the costs of generic drugs. He accused some pharmacies of price-gouging,
with mark ups of as much at 3,000 percent. Generic drugs cost less than name brands of the same medications, but the reporter
says the lower price may still represent a high mark-up. He also found that Costco prices were consistently more reasonable and
that due to drugs being a regulated substance, anyone can walk into any Costco to purchase those without being a Costco member.
I verified that with Costco as true. Here is Steve Wilson's story filed with the ABC affiliate in Detroit: Click HereAnd the "Truth or Fiction" take on this story: Click HereAnd Costco's online pharmacy: Click Here.
6. How would you like to be a person 200+ years in the future coming back here to learn about life here?
If you believe in time travel, this "debunked by the authorities" story is for you:
"'Time Traveler' Busted for Insider Trading": Click Here.
7. A sign of the times: Pan American Airways became the first U. S. Flag Carrier to New Zealand with service from San Francisco
via Honolulu using Boeing 314 Flying Boats in March, 1937. Now, March 29, 2003, 66 years later, Pan Am's successor on the
route, United Airlines' last flight leaves Auckland, as the last scheduled U. S. Flag Carrier there closes its New Zealand operations: Click HereAnd, questions & answers about United's New Zealand pullout for New Zealand's Star Alliance/Mileage Plus passengers: Click HereAdditionally, on March 31,1903, 100 years ago this past week, New Zealand aviator Richard Pearse was reportedly the first
person to fly a heavier-than-air craft, eight months before the Wright Brothers. Here is his story: Click Here.
8. One very beautiful astronomy picture of the day by the Hubble Telescope this past week: Click Here.
9. A group calling themselves Sir Francis Bacon's Sages of the Seventh Seal & others are calling for a vault to be
unearthed beneath a Williamsburg, Virginia church which they believe contain writings, documents and other material
belonging to Sir Francis Bacon and say he is the real author of the plays attributed to William Shakespeare: Click Here.
10. Last November, the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) summoned 25 airline executives to Washington, D. C.
for a secret briefing. They were told to prepare themselves for the unthinkable: there was growing evidence from intelligence
agencies, including the CIA, that terrorists had plans to use shoulder-fired missiles against U.S. passenger planes. This is
a chilling story that was broadcast on CBS News "60 Minutes" on Sunday, March 30, 2003. Here is that story: Click Here.
11. The National Geographic reported two years ago that the marsh area called The Fertile Crescent, the land in southern Iraq
between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, is now almost gone--and that was 2 years ago. Operation Iraqi Freedom is sure to put
more stress on the area as peoples and lands are disrupted by conflict: Click Here.
12. A fantastic find this week by Egyptian archaeologists when they uncovered mummified bones in a 5,000 year old coffin outside
Cairo. Not the oldest discovered mummies in the world--that belongs to Chile, however the oldest in Egypt: Click Here.
13. Just a couple of interesting points for contemplation raised this week about Operation Iraqi Freedom:
A. There is no flood of refugees from Iraq into Jordan, as had been expected: Click HereB. Honsi Mubarak, Egypt's moderate President said on March 31st the war would produce '"one hundred new bin Ladens," driving more Muslims to anti-Western militancy. HUM: Click Here.
14. Required reading for Ramtha's School of Enlightenment (RSE) Spring Retreats, if you have not already done so, is "The
Wonderful World of Henry Sugar and Six More". Even if you are not a student, this book is easy reading and an inspiration to everyone of all ages. That and other suggested reading can be found on the right side of the page at: Click Here.
