KLEINER'S KORNER FOR WEEK OF AUGUST 27, 2007
This writer is on holiday this week, hence this edition's early arrival in your Inbox...

1. “SCIENTISTS REVEAL SECRET OF LEVITATION” “British scientists have discovered a ground-breaking way of levitating ultra-small objects, which may revolutionise the design of micro-machines, a new report says. Physicists said they can create "incredible levitation effects" by manipulating so-called Casimir force, which normally causes objects to stick together by quantum force.
The phenomenon could be used to improve the performances of everyday devices ranging from car airbags to computer chips, say Professor Ulf Leonhardt and Dr Thomas Philbin from Saint Andrews University.
Casimir force - discovered in 1948 and first measured in 1997 - can be seen in a gecko's ability to stick to a surface with just one toe.
Now the British scientists say they can reverse the Casimir force to cause an object to repel rather than attract another in a vacuum,” quoting the AFP. link here

2. “SCIENTISTS DISCOVER LARGEST KNOWN PLANET OUTSIDE OF SOLAR SYSTEM” “Scientists at Flagstaff's Lowell Observatory are part of a team that announced the discovery of the largest-known planet outside our solar system.
The planet TrES-4, is 20 times the diameter of Earth and 1.7 times the diameter of the largest planet in our solar system, Jupiter.
Scientists believe the planet is made up mainly of hydrogen and with a temperature of 2,300-degrees Fahrenheit, it's unlikely anything lives there...
Lowell along with the California Institute of Technology's Palomar Observatory in San Diego County and telescopes operating in Spain's Canary Islands discovered the plant circling a star 1,400 light-years away in the constellation Hercules,” quoting ABC News. link here
.

3. "AIDS INTERFERES WITH STEM CELLS IN THE BRAIN" "A prominent problem in AIDS is a form of dementia that robs one’s ability to concentrate and perform normal movements. Scientists at the Burnham Institute for Medical Research (Burnham) have discovered how HIV/AIDS disrupts the normal replication of stem cells in the adult brain, preventing new nerve cells from forming. Drs. Stuart Lipton, Marcus Kaul, Shu-ichi Okamoto and their colleagues uncovered a novel molecular mechanism that inhibits stem cell proliferation and that could possibly be triggered in other neurodegenerative diseases as well. These findings were made available to medical researchers today through priority publication online by the journal Cell Stem Cell," quoting Germany's Innovations Report.

4. “IS THIS A REAL LIFE ‘LIGHT SABER?’” “The Homeland Security Department is aiming to arm federal agents with a light-saber-type weapon that emits a dazzling strobe capable of subduing criminals, terrorists and even unruly airline passengers.
It's the latest government effort to develop a non-lethal weapon — in this case, a powerful beam of light that temporarily blinds anyone who looks into it.
"The light could be used to make a bad guy turn away or shut his eyes, giving authorities enough time to tackle the suspect and apply the cuffs, all while sparing the lives of passersby, hostages or airline passengers," according to a description of the device from the Homeland Security Department's science and technology division.
Program manager Gerald Kirwin says Homeland Security has invested $1 million for testing of the LED (light-emitting diode) Incapacitator. It is being developed by a Torrance, Calif., company, Intelligent Optical Systems, and it will be tested on volunteers at Pennsylvania State University's Institute of Non-Lethal Defense Technologies this fall,” quoting USA Today. link here

5. STUDY: TROPICAL STORMS DOUBLED IN CENTURY “The number of tropical storms developing annually in the Atlantic Ocean more than doubled over the past century, with the increase taking place in two jumps, researchers say.
The increases coincided with rising sea surface temperature, largely the byproduct of human-induced climate warming, researchers Greg J. Holland and Peter J. Webster concluded.
Their findings were being published online Sunday by Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London.
An official at the National Hurricane Center called the research "sloppy science" and said technological improvements in observing storms accounted for the increase,” quoting the AP. link here

6. “RESEARCHERS: GINGER CAUSES OVARIAN CANCER CELLS TO DIE” “Ginger is known to ease nausea and control inflammation. But researchers at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center are investigating a new use for this age-old remedy: treating ovarian cancer. In laboratory studies, researchers found ginger caused ovarian cancer cells to die. Further, the way in which the cells died suggests ginger may avoid the problem common in ovarian cancer of cells becoming resistant to standard treatments.
The researchers are presenting their results in a poster session at the American Association for Cancer Research annual meeting,” quoting this University of Michigan Press Release from last year. link here

7. GLOBAL WARMING ISSUES IN THE NEWS A. “SIERRA TREES DYING FASTER DUE TO WARMING” “Conifer trees in the Sierra Nevada are dying at nearly double the rate as they were two decades ago, stressed by hotter temperatures and lower precipitation, according to a study to be presented later this week [Aug. 8]. The 400-mile-long range has endured dry spells in the past, but its trees now are more likely to die during such periods because they are struggling with the effects of a new challenge — global warming,” quoting the AP. link here
B. “CORAL REEFS DYING FASTER THAN EXPECTED” “Coral reefs in much of the Pacific Ocean are dying faster than previously thought, according to a study released Wednesday [Aug. 8], with the decline driven by climate change, disease and coastal development.
Researchers from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill found that coral coverage in the Indo-Pacific - an area stretching from Indonesia's Sumatra island to French Polynesia - dropped 20 percent in the past two decades.
About 600 square miles of reefs have disappeared since the 1960s, the study found, and the losses were just as bad in Australia's well-protected Great Barrier Reef as they were in poorly managed marine reserves in the Philippines.
‘We found the loss of reef building corals was much more widespread and severe than previously thought,’ said John Bruno, who conducted the study along with Elizabeth Selig. ‘Even the best managed reefs in the Indo-Pacific suffered significant coral loss over the past 20 years,’” quoting the AP. link here
C. CLIMATE TIPPING POINTS CLOSER THAN THOUGHT UK's Guardian reported the following in the August 16th edition: "Some tipping points for climate change could be closer than previously thought. Scientists are predicting that the loss of the massive Greenland ice sheet may now be unstoppable and lead to catastrophic sea-level rises around the world. ...
In drawing together research on tipping points, where damage due to climate change occurs irreversibly and at an increasing rate, the researchers concluded that the risks were much greater than those predicted by the latest report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)....
His study identified eight tipping points that could be passed by the end of this century. They include the destruction of the Amazon rainforest, the melting of the west Antarctic ice sheet, and a collapse of the global ocean current known as the thermohaline circulation. If that circulation stopped, the Indian monsoons and the gulf stream could be shut down." [Ed. Note: JZ Knight & Ramtha have been saying that for years and Ramtha said just that again on the Miami CD from June, 2007 recently released. Order yours by calling 1-800-347-0439.]

D. "ISLANDS EMERGE AS ARCTIC ICE SHRINKS TO RECORD LOW" "Previously unknown islands are appearing as Arctic summer sea ice shrinks to record lows, raising questions about whether global warming is outpacing U.N. projections, experts said," quoting Reuters.

8. “SUPERMARKET GIANT KROGER TO EXPAND ORGANIC LINE” “The nation’s largest traditional grocer is expanding organic food offerings and targeting a broader range of customers for the fast-growing segment.
The new push by Kroger Co., which was launched Wednesday, features its own brand of organic foods, from pasta to peanut butter, and displays them throughout the store, outside their usual home in natural foods sections. Starting with 65 items, Kroger expects to double its Private Selection brand organics by the end of the year,” quoting the AP. [Ed. Note: Kroger is the parent company of local grocer QFC.] link here
.

9. “EIGHT-MILLION-YEAR-OLD BUG IS ALIVE AND GROWING” “An 8-million-year-old bacterium that was extracted from the oldest known ice on Earth is now growing in a laboratory, claim researchers.
If confirmed, this means ancient bacteria and viruses will come back to life as ice melts due to global warming. This is nothing to worry about, say experts, because the process has been going on for billions of years and the bugs are unlikely to cause human disease.
Kay Bidle of Rutgers University in New Jersey, US, and his colleagues extracted DNA and bacteria from ice found between 3 and 5 metres beneath the surface of a glacier in the Beacon and Mullins valleys of Antarctica. The ice gets older as it flows down the valleys and the researchers took five samples that were between 100,000 and 8 million years old.
They then attempted to resuscitate the organisms in the oldest and the youngest samples,” quoting New Scientist. link here
.

10. “POLLUTION PROMPTS RECORD NUMBER OF BEACH CLOSINGS NATIONWIDE” “The water at American beaches was unsafe for swimming a record number of days last year [2006], according to the 17th annual beach water quality report released today by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). Using data just collected from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the report, “Testing the Waters: A Guide to Water Quality at Vacation Beaches,” tallied more than 25,000 closing and health advisory days at ocean, bay and Great Lakes beaches in 2006. The number of no-swim days caused by stormwater more than doubled from the year before.

11. THINK BOURNE IDENTITY SCENARIO FICTION? THINK AGAIN! For those of you thinking that upper echelons of our government are not like those in the Bourne Identity, you must see this video: John Perkins - America's Secret Empire"
link here
Mr Perkins wrote: Confessions of an Economic Hit Man which "reveals a game that, according to John Perkins, is "as old as Empire" but has taken on new and terrifying dimensions in an era of globalization. And Perkins should know. For many years he worked for an international consulting firm where his main job was to convince LDCs (less developed countries) around the world to accept multibillion-dollar loans for infrastructure projects and to see to it that most of this money ended up at Halliburton, Bechtel, Brown and Root, and other United States engineering and construction companies. This book, which many people warned Perkins not to write, is a blistering attack on a little-known phenomenon that has had dire consequences on both the victimized countries and the U.S, " quoting the RSE online store. link here then type in CONFESSIONS in the search box & order yours.

12. INTRODUCING "THE SHIFT" TRAILER Will Arntz leads off in this dynamic movie trailer:
link here
About the film from their website: "A massive worldwide phenomenon is in progress, offering seeds of great hope for the future.
Millions of individuals, organizations and corporations around the world are waking up and embracing a new outlook with an emphasis on their responsibility to contribute positively to our collective future.
We are in the middle of the biggest social transformation in human history, The SHIFT.
At this critical point, it is imperative we make the masses aware of this global movement quickly. This evolutionary phenomenon is broader and deeper than the most visible SHIFT, the environmental movement. It involves our very understanding of who we are as human beings, and our responsibility to the world and to life itself.
THE SHIFT movie raises awareness to the story of our roles in an evolutionary shift in our collective consciousness.
As it chronicles the faces, the stories and leaders assisting in this social transformation, the film reveals its emergence & meaning."

KLEINER'S KORNER FOR WEEK OF AUGUST 20, 2007
"As a celebrated actor, Leonardo DiCaprio has had many hours in the media sun, but mere celebrity does not seem to be enough for him. He also wants to change the world, and he has created a new documentary called "The 11th Hour" with that revolutionary purpose in mind. Concerned with global warming and environmental catastrophe, the film has its own action web site at link here
The film is not about DiCaprio, but about all of us, for we are all actors in the drama of planetary survival. That is made clear by the banner streaming across the film's web site: "We are the generation that gets to change the world forever. Let's begin." "The 11th Hour" is opening on August 17 in New York and Los Angeles [nationwide August 24]. DiCaprio made the film with the help of two sisters - Leila Conners Petersen and Nadia Conners," quoting Truthout.com. link here

1. "HOT GAS IN SPACE MIMICS LIFE" "Electrically charged specks of interstellar dust organize into DNA-like double helixes and display properties normally attributed to living systems, such as evolving and reproducing, new computer simulations show.
But scientists are hesitant to call the dancing dust particles "alive," and instead say they are just another example of how difficult it is to define life.
The computer model, detailed in the Aug. 14 issue of the New Journal of Physics, shows what happens to microscopic dust particles when they are injected into plasma.
Plasma is the fourth state of matter along with solids, liquids and gases. While unfamiliar to most people, plasma is the most common phase of matter in the universe. It's everywhere: Stars are luminous balls of plasma, and diffuse plasma pervades the space between stars. Plasma forms when gas becomes so hot that electrons are stripped from atomic nuclei, leaving behind a soup of charged particles," quoting Live Science. link here

2. "...COPPER - THE NEW WEAPON AGAINST SUPERBUGS" " Following research by Professor Bill Keevil at the University of Southampton [UK] showing that copper can significantly reduce the presence of MRSA, a Birmingham hospital is to launch an 18-month clinical trial next month (April 2007) to establish whether the installation of copper surfaces will kill MRSA and other hospital-acquired infections. Laboratory tests by Professor Keevil, Director of the Environmental Healthcare Unit at the University of Southampton, have established that the natural antimicrobial properties of copper and copper alloys dramatically reduce the presence of MRSA compared with stainless steel, the most commonly used surface-metal in health institutions... Professor Keevil explains that copper suffocates the germs. 'The metal reacts with the bacteria and inhibits their respiration - in effect it stops them breathing. In fact if you look back in the literature the Egyptians were using copper thousands of years ago to treat infections!'" quoting the University of Southhampton News Release.

3. SHELL OIL BLOCKED FROM DRILLING IN BEUFORT SEA "Shell's ambitious plan to drill exploratory oil wells in the remote Beaufort Sea might be doomed -- at least for this year -- after a federal appeals court on Wednesday ordered further delay for the project. It's a costly setback for the Dutch oil giant, which has a fleet of drilling ships and support vessels poised and waiting in Alaska and Canadian ports.
The court order is a victory for environmental groups and North Slope residents who argued oil industry noise could drive migratory bowhead whales out of reach of Native subsistence hunters, and who accused federal regulators of doing shoddy environmental studies of potential harm from drilling to whales, polar bears and birds," quoitng the Anchorage Daily News.

4. MEET AUTISTIC SAVANT MUSICIAN MATT SAVAGE – AGE 15. “Matthew "Matt" Savage (born 1992) is an American autistic savant musician. Matt was a precocious infant who walked early and learned to read by age 18 months.[3] He was diagnosed with pervasive developmental disorder, a form of autism, at age three.[4] Matt did not like any noises or music during his early childhood[5] At age six, Matt taught himself to read piano music.[6] He studied classical piano for less than a year before discovering jazz, which became his main focus. He began studying at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts in the fall of 1999. He continued his classical studies as well. He and his younger sister, Rebecca,[6] are both home schooled.[2] Among Matt's talents are hyperlexia[1]and perfect pitch.[7] Coupled with his extremely high intelligence, these abilities have allowed him to achieve other distinctions as well, such as winning a statewide geography bee,” quoting Wikipedia.

8. WEATHER RECORDS LAST WEEK NOTED A. "ARCTIC SUMMER SEA ICE HITS RECORD LOW" "The summer sea ice in the Arctic is melting at a rate never before seen by experts, setting a record low the last two days that's likely to continue through September, top sea ice experts said in two new reports that suggest mankind's emissions of greenhouse gases are at least partly responsible.
The National Snow and Ice Data Center on Friday [8/17] said conditions on Thursday and Friday were already below the 2005 record and would likely stay that way through the end of summer.
'Today is a historic day,' said Mark Serreze, a senior research scientist with the center, which is located at the University of Colorado-Boulder. 'This is the least sea ice we’ve ever seen in the satellite record and we have another month left to go in the melt season this year,'" link here
B. BROOKLYN [NYC] MARKS FIRST RECORDED TORNADO “What was thought to be a violently windy thunderstorm that plowed through Brooklyn Wednesday [Aug. 8] morning turned out to be a weather event of historical proportions.
The National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday night that an EF1 tornado touched down in the Livingston-Randall Manor area of Staten Island before eventually becoming the EF2 that slammed into Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
During a 10-minute stretch around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday the twister skipped along a nine-mile path before zipping through the Verrazano Narrows and into Bay Ridge. The storm marked Brooklyn's first tornado since such weather events were recorded. Officials measured it to be an EF2 twister, characterized by winds of anywhere from 111 to 135 miles per hour,” quoting WCBS - TV. link here
B. "JAPAN SWELTERS IN HOTTEST DAY ON RECORD" Japan sizzled through its hottest day on record Thursday as a heat wave claimed at least 13 lives and threatened power supplies strained by a recent earthquake, authorities and media reports said.
The mercury hit 105.6 degrees in the western city of Tajimi and the central city of Kumagaya, breaking a previous national record of 105.4 degrees set in 1933, the Meteorological Agency said.
In the Hachioji region of Tokyo, temperatures reached 101.7 degrees, breaking the previous record of 101.3 degrees for August," quoting the AP. link here

10. “SCIENCE VS. POLITICS GETS DOWN AND DIRTY” “’The science community now recognizes that this administration completely puts its political cart before the scientific horse," says Science magazine editor in chief Donald Kennedy, a former Food and Drug Administration chief. "We've seen it with one issue after another….’
Science policy professor Daniel Sarewitz of Arizona State University in Tempe says: "I think the opportunity to use science as a political tool against Bush has been irresistible — but it is very dangerous for science, and for politics. You can expect to see similar accusations of the political use of science in the next regime."...
In response, the Union of Concerned Scientists, an environmental and science advocacy group, has begun a voter campaign to "protect the integrity of science." Scientists and Engineers for Change, which included dozens of Nobel laureates, campaigned against Bush in 2004,” quoting USA Today.

With so much at stake, we have a president whose administration stands out in its criminality and disdain for the rule of law. The Case for Impeachment explains the legal history and grounds for impeaching George W. Bush and brings forth more than a half dozen articles of impeachment the likes of: Lying and inducing Congress and the American people into an unjust war. Allowing his friends and business cronies to profiteer off the war in Iraq. Authorizing torture and rendition of prisoners of war and suspected terrorists--a complete violation of the Geneva Conventions, a treaty the U.S. has signed and is therefore part of our law. Stripping American citizens of their Constitutional rights--holding people with no charge, wiretapping them illegally, offering them no trial, and never allowing them to face their accusers. Failing in almost every way possible to defend the homeland and our borders,” says Amazon’s review about this book.

KLEINER'S KORNER FOR WEEK OF AUGUST 13, 2007
Whenever I go into what is considered the political theater, I get a response liken unto walking into a mine-field. Nowhere was that more evident than last week with a large amount of "unsubscribes" and a couple of challenging letters. See #11 below.

1. “YOU CAN FORGET THE UNHAPPY PAST: REUTERS” “Researchers have confirmed what common wisdom has long held -- that people can suppress emotionally troubling memories -- and said on Thursday [July 12] they have sketched out how the brain accomplishes this.
‘You're shutting down parts of the brain that are responsible for supporting memories’" said Brendan Depue, a neuroscience doctoral student at the University of Colorado who worked on the study. He said his team discovered the brain's emotional center is also shut down. …
The hippocampus, where memories are formed and retrieved, and amygdala, the emotion hub, were later also deactivated,” quoting Reuters. link here
.

2. “DOES LIFE EXIST BEYOND EARTH?” “...But today's scientists hope to get beyond mere statistics to find something more substantial, and more edifying. Perhaps more than at any other time in history, scientists are optimistic that extraterrestrial life does exist, and that a firm confirmation can be had.
Their hope is buoyed by recent discoveries of worlds beyond our solar system and new revelations recently learned about the hardiness of life here on our own planet.
‘As we learn more about the diversity of life, particularly microbial life, we expand our definition of what life is and how life can exist in some very hostile (to humans) environments,’ said biologist Diana Northup of the University of New Mexico,” quoting LiveScience. [Ed. Note: As scientists expand their minds, so will their understandings of life in the universe.] link here

3. “NIKOLA TESLA” THE MISSING SECRETS” “Why did the US Government, the CIA and The Patent Office try to cover up all the great work of Tesla? Was he the greatest genius of all time?” quoting this YouTube site. [Ed. Note: Each of the 4 segments is about 15 minutes long & brilliantly researched.] Part I link here

4. “WORLD’S FIRST CARBON-FREE CITY” “It may seem strange that the emirate of Abu Dhabi, one of the planet's largest suppliers of oil, is planning to build the world's first carbon-neutral city. But in fact, it makes a lot of financial sense. The 3.7-square-mile city, called Masdar, will cut its electricity bill by harnessing wind, solar, and geothermal energy, while a total ban on cars within city walls should reduce the long-term health costs associated with smog. Masdar is still on the drawing board -- construction begins in January, with a very tentative completion date of 2009 -- but the result will be watched closely around the world,” quoting Business 20 Magazine. link here .

5. U. S. NAVY BARRED FROM USING SONAR IN EXERCISES OFF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA" "A federal judge on Monday [August 6] banned the Navy from using high-power sonar during a series of upcoming training exercises, ruling the technology can cause widespread damage to dozens of species of whales and marine mammals.
U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper issued the temporary injunction in response to a Navy request to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the Natural Resources Defense Council [NRDC].
The group says the Navy planned to use mid-frequency sonar over thousands of square miles of ocean that can cause strandings and other harm to marine animals. The training exercises are planned for the waters off Southern California, an area rich in marine life.
Joel Reynolds, a senior attorney for the NRDC, said the injunction would force the Navy into compliance with federal environmental laws protecting marine life," quoting the AP.

6. A MUST SEE- 81 YEARS YOUNG COLORADO SKATER! “Yvonne Dowlen’s days of Salchows and Axels are well behind her. But that hasn’t stopped the 81-year-old from lacing up her skates for regular competition.
Dowlen began figure skating competitively in 1938 in her hometown of Lakewood, Colo., and spent time with the Ice Capades in the 1940s and ’50s.
This week [April 13], she’s in Bensenville [Illinois] competing in the 2007 U.S. Adult Figure Skating Championships. Her daughter Sherry, 44, is also competing at the Master Ladies Senior level that she’s mastered previously,” quoting the Daily Herald [Chicago suburbs]. link here

8. “SCIENTISTS ISSUE WARNING ABOUT CHEMCIAL IN PLASTIC” “In an unusual effort targeting a single chemical, several dozen scientists on Thursday issued a strongly worded consensus statement warning that an estrogen-like compound in plastic is likely to be causing an array of serious reproductive disorders in people.
The compound, bisphenol A or BPA, is one of the highest-volume chemicals in the world and has found its way into the bodies of most human beings.
Used to make hard plastic, BPA can seep from beverage containers and other materials. It is used in all polycarbonate plastic baby bottles, as well as other rigid plastic items, including large water cooler containers, sports bottles and microwave oven dishes, along with canned food liners and some dental sealants for children.
The scientists - including four from federal health agencies - reviewed about 700 studies before concluding that people are exposed to levels of the chemical exceeding those that harm lab animals. Infants and fetuses are most vulnerable, they said.
The statement, published online by the journal Reproductive Toxicology, was accompanied by a new study by researchers from the National Institutes of Health finding uterine damage in newborn animals exposed to BPA. That damage is a possible predictor of reproductive diseases in women, including fibroids, endometriosis, cystic ovaries and cancers. It is the first time BPA has been linked to female reproductive tract disorders, although earlier studies have found early-stage prostate and breast cancer and decreased sperm counts in animals exposed to low doses,” quoting the LA Times. link here

9. SMALL HOUSE SOCIETY & SMALL HOUSE MOVEMENT “Welcome to the Small House Society. We are a cooperatively managed organization dedicated to the promotion of smaller housing alternatives which can be more affordable and ecological.
The Small House Society is a voice for the Small House Movement. That movement includes movie stars who have proudly downsized into 3000 square feet, families of five happy in an arts and crafts bungalow, multifamily housing in a variety of forms, and more extreme examples, such as people on houseboats and in trailers with just a few hundred square feet around them. Size is relative, and mainly we promote discussion about the ecological, economic and psychological toll that excessive housing takes on our lives, and what some of us are doing to live better. It's not a movement about people claiming to be "tinier than thou" but rather people making their own choices toward simpler and smaller living however they feel best fits their life,” quoting their site. link here

10. THINGS TO THINK ABOUT IN THE ECONOMY A. "CHINA THREATENS 'NUCLEAR OPTION' OF DOLLAR SALES" "The Chinese government has begun a concerted campaign of economic threats against the United States, hinting that it may liquidate its vast holding of US treasuries if Washington imposes trade sanctions to force a yuan revaluation...
Described as China's "nuclear option" in the state media, such action could trigger a dollar crash at a time when the US currency is already breaking down through historic support levels.
It would also cause a spike in US bond yields, hammering the US housing market and perhaps tipping the economy into recession. It is estimated that China holds over $900bn in a mix of US bonds.," quoting UK's Telepragh. [Ed. Note: This writer has always said here that American consumer credit card debt, an inflated too high Stock Market, the USA's debt held by China, Saudi Arabia and others plus out-of-control spending on an Iraq Incursion has the USA sitting perilously on a financial house of cards. Nowhere wast hat more visible than American financial markets last week!]

B. "GETTING THE RESCUE RIGHT" "Help has been way too slow in coming for the estimated 1.7 million people who will lose their homes to foreclosure this year and next. A modest bill to bolster funds for state, local and nonprofit agencies that help hard-pressed homeowners renegotiate their mortgages and restructure their debts has been slogging through the Senate since April, and it won't be passed until October at the earliest - if ever...
Many strapped borrowers stuck in subprime loans, with adjustable rates that reset sharply upward, could have qualified for higher quality loans to begin with. Instead they were steered into the subprime variety by brokers who earned bigger fees by making dodgier mortgages. Now that the lenders are suddenly in trouble and credit standards have been tightened, those borrowers cannot refinance into higher quality, more affordable loans. They clearly deserve help to keep their homes.
In other instances, borrowers who had weak credit a few years ago and so had no choice but to take out subprime loans, now have track records of good payments. They, too, should be allowed to refinance into loans that would let them keep their homes," quoting the New York Times.

C. "VERY SCARY THINGS" "What's been happening in financial markets over the past few days is something that truly scares monetary economists: liquidity has dried up. That is, markets in stuff that is normally traded all the time - in particular, financial instruments backed by home mortgages - have shut down because there are no buyers.
This could turn out to be nothing more than a brief scare. At worst, however, it could cause a chain reaction of debt defaults.
The origins of the current crunch lie in the financial follies of the last few years, which in retrospect were as irrational as the dot-com mania. The housing bubble was only part of it; across the board, people began acting as if risk had disappeared," quoting The New York Times.

D. THE MOST ASTUTE ASSESSMENT THIS WRITER HAS SEEN "Bernanke is trying to call to a halt a 25-year policy of monetary expansion. This means that he is threatening the capital allocation decisions of a generation of investors who do not know what a good, old-fashioned recession is.
Cramer talks about his buddies of 25 years. Well, these guys grew up in an era of monetary expansion. They came to maturity in an era of inflation. Now Bernanke is trying to end this era. At some price, he can do this. Any central bank can. But the economic price is high...
Cramer’s buddies are feeling the pain first. They have been hooked on fiat money all of their lives, as have we all. The FED has been the pusher. Now, unlike dealers in the past, Bernanke is trying to put his clientele on methadone. Cramer’s buddies are suffering withdrawal symptoms. The methadone isn’t working. The rush is gone. The pain is increasing," quoting LewRockwell.com.

11. KK READERS SHARE VIEWS WITH THIS WRITER These letters were received in response to last week's story titled FORMER ISRAELI INTELLIGENCE OFFICER SAYS USA IN CROSS HAIRS: A. "A suggestion - not a judgment I have just been looking at all the so called "Negative". Well, we know that negative can not exist without positive. There has to be something in that category to put into your weekly publication. Please focus also on finding those and balance your publications a bit more out."
B. "Obviously you haven't been to Conscious Media Network and watched the Aaron Russo video there, where Aaron explains that "terrorists" make the perfect fictitious "bad guy" that war profiteers are now milking. Paraphrased... "Terrorists are the perfect 'bad guy' because they're unseen, they can come from any country. A perfect warmonger's propaganda."
Steve, in your ignorance you are a fearmonger yourself, by running stories like this, when you should be asking people to go online and watch videos such as Aaron's. And George Green's. You haven't done that either, I've noticed. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
And you beg off by saying ...
"[Ed. Note: Always trust YOUR own knowingness. Never take my word for anything here. Use your own mind to discern what you will from your own readings.]" If you understood, if you weren't ignorant about how warmongers operate, you wouldn't even be putting this garbage in peoples' neural net~!! You should know better. Now, your whole subscriber list has that garbage put in their neural net when you know it's propaganda, or at least you Should!!! Shame on you. You are not a Master at all. You are intellectually stupid and disconnected from your own Knowingness. Your contribution is a gross anti-contribution, regarding this post." Dear KK Reader,
I have watched Aaron Russo's video, have had it on the KK twice & listed his other works, as well. I was the one that suggested his film to the Yelm Cinemas last year, which they showed here.
Knowledge is power and having the knowledge of many possible outcomes empowers people to make better choices based on being informed. I have witnessed our Teacher Ramtha up against all sorts of negativity from some of his students as he has outlined his Days to Come teachings over the last 25 years, amidst a tirade of outright hostility by some. And his predictions have been coming to pass for some time now. I definitely am ignorant & unaware often times, I will attest & I obviously am not as educated as you and some readers about these things. I will print your letter on the next Kleiner's Korner to allow the readers to have the benefit of your knowledge and your contribution as a reader.
I always heard our teacher Ramtha tell us if what we have to say is not controversial, causing people to think and expand the little box in which they have confined their minds, it isn't saying much at all!
Thank you all for writing.

12. THIS WRITER AND HIS WIFE TO MARCH ON WASHINGTON TO IMPEACH BUSH/CHENEY “On September 15th 2007 there is a march in Washington to impeach both Bush and Cheney...
The ImpeachBush.org movement is uniting again with the anti-war movement to demand Impeach Bush, End the War Now! Tens of thousands will descend on Washington DC at the very moment that the national and international media will be focusing on General Petraeus' report to Congress, which is being issued on September 15.
Iraq war veterans and their families will make up a huge front contingent of the September 15 March on Washington. At the very moment that Congress will be debating the war in mid-September, the people will gather in an historic action demanding that Bush and Cheney be impeached for inciting a war of aggression, authorizing torture and conducting a massive spying program on the American people.
This is a people's movement. It comes from below, from the grassroots. That is the hallmark of all great movements in history. It is always the people acting, with conviction and resolve, that changes the political equation,” quoting this You Tube site.
[Ed. Note: While impeachment proceedings take longer to investigate & enact than Bush/Cheney have in office, unless they instill marshal law because of a ‘Wag the Dog” scenario and end up banning elections, this march will send a loud message to the World. This writer is looking at going!] This writer & his wife will be at the D. C. March. Look for our report on the September 17th Kleiner's Korner. link here

E. Miceal Ledwith was quoted in the London (UK) Daily Mail on Orbs, “Earlier this year, the world's first conference on orbs took place in Sedona, Arizona, where several scientists controversially stated that they believed orbs were indeed a genuine paranormal phenomenon...
Similarly, Miceal Ledwith, a former professor of Theology, who for ten years was President of Maynooth College at the National University of Ireland, reminded the sceptics that when, in 1861, Dr Ignaz Semmelweis had claimed there might be some unseen link between surgeons who didn't wash their hands and the high rate of infection in childbirth, his mainstream colleagues ridiculed him.
Yet he had found the first evidence of what was later to become known as bacteria.
'Most great discoveries throughout history have been initially ridiculed,' Ledwith told the orbs conference. 'To my mind, there is no doubt that the orb phenomenon is real and deserves to be taken seriously. There are not just a few pictures of orbs, which could easily be faked, but hundreds of thousands from all over the world.'
To date, Ledwith, who was also a member of the International Theological Commission at the Vatican, has a collection of more than 100,000 orb pictures.
Klaus Heinemann's and Miceal Ledwith's book, The Orb Project, will be published by Simon & Schuster in November.” link here

KLEINER'S KORNER FOR WEEK OF AUGUST 6, 2007
Dear Readers;

While some of you have called me a doom & gloomer from time to time, I say being armed with knowledge can assist with being prepared for coming turbulence. After all, was it not a bible story where Joseph predicted a future famine and wisely insisted on storing food for 7 years to an unbelieving citizenry. The Pharaoh followed that counsel and the rest is history. Why should looking at the future today be any different?
To that end, the stories 10, 11, & 12 below may be lumped into the doom & gloom category, so pass through those if you wish not to see the writing on the wall, as it were. For those of you that read these items, you will find them consistent with what this writer has said on several occasions and in line with the teachings of Ramtha.

1. “WHO’S MINDING THE MIND?” This New York Times article shows how easily humanity can be swayed in a certain direction: “Psychologists say that “priming” people in this way is not some form of hypnotism, or even subliminal seduction; rather, it’s a demonstration of how everyday sights, smells and sounds can selectively activate goals or motives that people already have. More fundamentally, the new studies reveal a subconscious brain that is far more active, purposeful and independent than previously known. Goals, whether to eat, mate or devour an iced latte, are like neural software programs that can only be run one at a time, and the unconscious is perfectly capable of running the program it chooses. The give and take between these unconscious choices and our rational, conscious aims can help explain some of the more mystifying realities of behavior, like how we can be generous one moment and petty the next, or act rudely at a dinner party when convinced we are emanating charm.”

2. OH MY GAWD! WHERE IS THE LOGIC? A. “WHITE HOUSE SEES BLACK GOLD IN MELTING SEA ICE” Quoting USA Today, “The Bush administration is worried about missing out on a bonanza of oil and other resources in the Arctic unless Congress approves a treaty that helps determine who has rights to the area's wealth. Arctic sea ice has decreased nearly 20% in the last two decades as the Earth's climate warms, making access to the area easier. The eight countries bordering the region, including the USA, are now staking competing claims.” link here
B. RUSSIA PUNCTUATES ITS CLAIM TO ARCTIC WITH AN UNDERSEA FLAG” “Two Russian submarines dived deep below the sea at the North Pole on Thursday and planted Russia's national flag on the seabed to stake a symbolic claim to the energy riches of the Arctic. The USA and Canada quickly dismissed Russia's proclamation, saying it had no legal basis. Several countries are staking competing claims to the Arctic region's vast reserves of untapped oil and natural gas, which are becoming more accessible as a warming climate melts the ice. A mechanical arm attached to one of the submarines dropped a specially made, rust-proof titanium flag painted with the Russian tricolor onto the Arctic seabed at a depth of 13,980 feet,” quoting USA Today. link here C. NEWSWEEK COVER: “GLOBAL WARMING IS A HOAX” “Since the late 1980s, this well-coordinated, well-funded campaign by contrarian scientists, free-market think tanks and industry has created a paralyzing fog of doubt around climate change. Through advertisements, op-eds, lobbying and media attention, greenhouse doubters (they hate being called deniers) argued first that the world is not warming; measurements indicating otherwise are flawed, they said. Then they claimed that any warming is natural, not caused by human activities. Now they contend that the looming warming will be minuscule and harmless.”

[Ed. Note: Where is the logic in digging under sea ice for more oil when the melting sea ice that now allows deep Arctic exploration was caused by burning fossil fuels? Hello, is anyone home?]

3. WA. GOVERNOR DECLARES AUG. 12-18 FARMERS MARKET WEEK “Farmers markets are sprouting up around the state as consumers show increasing interest in purchasing fresh local foods. The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) and Washington State Farmers Market Association (WSFMA) join Gov. Chris Gregoire in proclaiming Aug. 12-18 as Washington State Farmers Market Week-a time to recognize the benefits of local farmers markets. The number of markets in Washington has doubled in the last decade, increasing from 60 in 1998 to more than 120 in operation today. Statewide, farmers markets reported $38 million in sales in 2006, up more than 50 percent from the previous year. Most of those dollars go directly to Washington family farmers,” quoting the July 30 Press Release of the Washington State Dept. of Agriculture. link here

4. “ARE YOUR CELL PHONE & LAPTOPS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH?” A. “For years, opponents of cell towers and wireless technology have voiced concerns about potential health effects of electromagnetic fields. Once ridiculed as crackpots and Luddites, they're starting to get backup from the scientific community. For decades, concerns have been raised about the health effects of "extremely low frequency" fields that are produced by electrical equipment or power lines. People living close to large power lines or working next to heavy electrical equipment are spending a lot of time in electromagnetic fields generated by those sources. Others of us can be exposed briefly to very strong fields each day. But in the past decade, suspicion has spread to cell phones and other wireless technologies, which operate at frequencies that are millions to tens of millions higher but at low power and "pulsed." Then there's your cell phone, laptop, or other wireless device, which not only receives but also sends pulsed signals at high frequencies. Because it's usually very close to your head (or lap) when in use, the fields experienced by your body are stronger than those from a cell tower down the street. A growing number of scientists, along with a diverse collection of technology critics, are pointing out that our bodies constantly generate electrical pulses as part of their normal functioning. They maintain that incoming radiation from modern technology may be fouling those signals,” quoting AlterNet. link here

5. “BUDDING PROBLEM?” ARE PORTABLE LISTENING PLAYERS DAMAGING OUR HEARING? How we listen to portable music players can affect our hearing. Earbuds seem to be the latest must-have travel accessory. But what is that music, pumped straight into the ears, doing to our hearing? It's a hot topic in hearing research because of the popularity of portable music devices, says Dr. Colin Driscoll, an ear specialist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. In April, Apple announced it had sold its 100-millionth iPod - the small, sleek MP3 player it introduced in 2001… If the music in your ears is so loud that you can't hear nearby conversations and the person next to you knows your favorite band, you're in the danger zone, he says. If you're turning up the volume to compensate for loud noises around you - TVs blaring or babies crying - your music is too loud. Earphones that block ambient noise can be helpful. The "earmuff" type is best. These may allow you to enjoy music at a safer volume - without distractions - instead of turning up the volume to block out loud noises. In one way, today's portable music technology does increase the risk of hearing loss. "You can listen all day" thanks to long-lasting batteries, Driscoll says. Sustained noise, even at moderate levels, may be more harmful than high-intensity, intermittent noise,” quoting the Mayo Clinic’s Lee Aase in the Northwest Airlines World Traveler Magazine “located in the seat pocket in front of you” on last month’s flights. link here then click "Archives", then click "July, 2007", then click "Budding Problem?"

7. ASIA’S BURNING FIRES ADDING TO GLOBAL WARMING A. “REPORT: ASIA HAZE SPEEDING GLACIAL MELT” Large haze clouds over the Indian Ocean contribute as much to atmospheric warming in Asia as do greenhouse gases and play a significant role in the melting of the Himalayan glaciers, researchers reported Thursday [Aug. 2]. The pollution — mostly from burning wood and plants used in cooking — enhanced the atmosphere's warming by about 50% and contributed to about half of the temperature increases blamed in recent decades for the glacial retreat, according to the study in the journal Nature,” quoting USA Today. link here
B. “BROWN HAZE FROM COOKING FIRES COOKING EARTH, TOO” “Drone aircraft flying in loose formation through the brown cloud that forms over the Indian subcontinent have revealed that the nearly two-mile thick haze exacerbates atmospheric warming by 50 percent. This means the soot in the cloud more than cancels out any cooling from its fellow aerosols—and causes as much warming as carbon dioxide (CO2), the leading greenhouse gas. Atmospheric physicist Veerabhadran Ramanathan of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of San Diego and his colleagues flew 18 missions with three unmanned aircraft from a base on the island of Hanimaadhoo in the Indian Ocean… The primary culprit seems to be the black carbon in soot, which soaks up any sunlight it can, thereby warming whatever it touches. And the dominant source for all this black carbon is cooking fires, Ramanathan says. All these cooking fires are, in effect, drying the region, both by contributing to the melting of glaciers that feed Asia's major rivers as well as by decreasing the evaporation that drives rainfall. Aerosols across the board, from black carbon to sulfates, appear to be increasing across Asia as it industrializes,” quoting Scientific American. [Ed. Note: be sure to see NASA image of haze.] link here

8. “’DEAD ZONE’ RETURNS TO OREGON COAST” “The return of oxygen-depleted water off the Oregon coast is a sign of a warming climate, which could have ill effect on populations of sea creatures, scientists said Monday [July 30]. It's the sixth year the water, known as a dead zone, has formed. ‘'It does, indeed, appear to be the new normal,’' said Jane Lubchenco, professor of marine biology at Oregon State University. ''The fact that we are seeing six in a row now tells us that something pretty fundamental has changed about conditions off of our coast.'' Unlike the dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico, which is caused by fertilizer washing down the Mississippi River, the Oregon dead zone is triggered by northerly winds, which create an ocean-mixing condition called upwelling,” quoting the AP. link here .

9. NASA MARS ROCKET LAUNCHED IN SEARCH FOR SIGNS OF WATER “A robotic dirt and ice digger rocketed toward Mars on Saturday [Aug. 4], beginning a 422 million-mile journey that NASA hopes will culminate next spring in the first-ever landing within the Red Planet's Arctic Circle…The Phoenix Mars Lander won't be looking for evidence of life on Mars but rather traces of organic compounds in the baked and moistened samples, which would be a possible indicator of conditions favorable for life, either now or once upon a time. If organic compounds are present on Mars, they're more likely to have been preserved in ice. That's why NASA is aiming for the planet's high northern latitudes, where ice is almost certainly lurking just beneath the surface. ,” quoting the AP. link here .

Based in New York with offices around the world, founded in 1979, Interfor provides foreign and domestic intelligence services to the legal, corporate and financial communities and conducts investigations around the world. In addition, Mr. Aviv serves as a special consultant to the U.S. Congress and other policy makers on issues of terrorism, fraud and money laundering.
A leading authority on terrorist networks, Mr. Aviv served as lead investigator for Pan Am Airways into the Pan Am 103-Lockerbie terrorist bombing. He was featured in the recent film, Munich, as the leader of the Israeli team that tracked down the terrorists who kidnapped the Israeli Olympic team….
...he shared information that EVERY American needs to know but our government has not shared.
Now for the scary stuff.... He predicts the next attack on the U.S. is coming within the next few months…. …and will involve suicide bombers and non-suicide bombers in places that people congregate: Disneyland, Las Vegas, Big Cities (NY, SFO, Chicago, etc...) and there it will be shopping malls, subways in rush hour, train stations, casinos, etc.. as well as rural America (Wyoming, Montana, etc...). The attack will be simultaneous detonations around the country (they like big impact) 5-8 cities including rural areas. They won't need to use suicide bombers because at largely populated places like the MGM Grand in Vegas - they can simply valet park!” quoting this non-corroborated blog.

11. IS THE STOCK MARKET IN A MELTDOWN? YOU DECIDE While I am called a “doom & gloom” writer by some for my views that the stock market is way overpriced and due for a major correction (seems no one has looked at the USA’s debt recently), this newsletter highlights why we are at a “Stock Market Meltdown”: “Economic policy is not “accidental”. The Fed’s policies were designed to create a crisis, and that crisis was intended to coincide with the activation of a nation-wide police-state. It is foolish to think that Greenspan or his fellows did not grasp the implications of the system they put in place. These are very smart men and very shrewd economists. They knew exactly what they were doing. They all understand the effects of low interest rates and expanded money supply. And, they’re also all familiar with Ludwig von Mises, who said:
‘There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion’
A crash is unavoidable because the policies were designed to create a crash. It’s that simple.
The Federal Reserve is a central player in a carefully considered plan to shift the nation’s wealth from one class to another. And they have succeeded….
The impending economic crisis is part of a much broader scheme to remake the political system from the ground-up so it better meets the needs of ruling elite. After the crash, public assets will be sold at firesale prices to the highest bidder. Public lands will be auctioned off. Basic services will be privatized. Democracy will be shelved,” quoting Mike Whitney in Information Clearing House. [Ed. Note: Always trust YOUR own knowingness. Never take my word for anything here. Use your own mind to discern what you will from your own readings.]

And: WHY BUYING A HOME WITH 0 DOWN IS OVER! “Home buyers again need their own money to close a deal. Lenders faced with growing piles of bad loans, even to borrowers once considered good credit risks, have clamped down on the no-money-down mortgage. The abrupt shift threatens to dash the hopes of millions of potential buyers, especially those shopping for their first homes. Four out of 10 first-time buyers used no-down-payment mortgages in 2005 and 2006, according to surveys by the National Association of Realtors. But some lenders are now scrapping such loans completely. Others are pickier about who gets them. All figure that the more cash borrowers put down, the less likely they are to default,” quoting the Washington Post. link here

12. WHAT HAVE WE DONE? [Ed. Note: We, the People of the United States of America... have not pressed Congress to uphold the Constitution and have therefore allowed our government to be handed over to a king with exclusive war powers. This is of grave significance. These op-ed pieces in recent days ask some questions that should be alarming to all Americans, and indeed to the world.]:
A. "WAR POWERS REST WITH CONGRESS" The USA Today printed this thoughtful and thorough piece by former three-term governor of New York Mario Cuomo: "The Constitution gives a clear vision of the Founders’ intentions. If only Congress hadn’t ceded its authority to a war-bound president."
link here

B. "JUST WHAT THE FOUNDERS FEARED: AN IMPERIAL PRESIDENT GOES TO WAR" This New York Times op-ed raises some alarming issues about Congress & PresIDent Bush: "Editorial Observer by Adam Cohen says current debate over deeply unpopular war in Iraq is arising in context of Congressional spending bill, and claims that is precisely what framers of Constitution intended; says founding fathers well understood danger of imperial presidency when president takes nation to war; says that is why they gave authority to declare war and raise and support armies not to president, but to Congress; says framers expected Congress to keep president on short leash on military matters; says members of Congress should not be intimidated into thinking they are overstepping their constitutional bounds; says if founders were looking on now, George Bush would seem less like president than king."
